One of the main buildings of the square, the Roman Catholic Church is built in Baroque style and dates from 1726-1733. The first Roman Catholic church to be allowed to function in Sibiu after the Reformation, it was originally a Jesuit foundation serving Austrian troops and administration officials stationed here. The church is attended by a mixed congregation of Romanians, Hungarians and Germans.
